SkyWater and SQC: Advancing Hybrid Quantum-Classical Computing

Silicon Quantum Computing and SkyWater Technology have announced a partnership to accelerate the commercialization of hybrid quantum-classical computing

This collaboration brings together SQC’s atomic-level precision in quantum processor design with SkyWater’s secure, U.S.-based semiconductor manufacturing expertise to advance the emerging “future compute” stack.

The future of compute sees Quantum Processing Units (QPUs) operating alongside classical GPUs and CPUs. Quantum computing can dramatically reduce AI-driven energy demand by offloading complex workloads from traditional processors. As highlighted in a recent example, Telstra used SQC hardware to cut machine learning training time from weeks to days, demonstrating how quantum-classical architectures can deliver faster results with lower energy intensity compared to conventional HPC clusters.

Through this partnership, SkyWater and Silicon Quantum Computing (SQC) aim to create systems where workloads are dynamically assigned to the processor best suited for the task, quantum or classical, unlocking higher performance and efficiency for demanding applications such as optimization, simulation, and advanced AI.

SkyWater will integrate SQC’s atomically engineered quantum processing units (QPUs) into the broader computing ecosystem.

This includes secure manufacturing of superconducting resonators with tailored silicon wafers, as well as scalable processes that ensure performance and supply chain integrity. The collaboration establishes a production environment capable of high-volume fabrication, rigorous quality control, and advanced packaging for complex hybrid systems.

SQC is also leveraging breakthroughs in microprocessor packaging driven by the AI boom, incorporating these innovations into quantum systems at increasing scale. Working with SkyWater underscores SQC’s global reach and commitment to partnering with U.S. technology leaders.

SQC's Founder an CEO, Michelle Simmons, said:

“SkyWater continues to be a great partner as we push on to fault tolerant and commercial scale quantum computing. They’re experts in their field and reflective of our commitment to working with American partners and customers. Together, we’re creating the quantum future.”

Thomas Sonderman, CEO of SkyWater Technology, added:

“SQCis doing exciting work to advance the frontier of quantum computing, and SkyWater is proud to help enable their vision. By combining SQC’s unique approach with SkyWater’s Trusted U.S.-based manufacturing and Technology-as-a-Service model, we’re helping bring the ‘future compute’ stack closer to reality. This collaboration reflects the kind of innovation partnership that will define the next generation of high-performance, secure computing.”
