The golden age of the experimentalist

In June 2025, SQC Founder and CEO, Michelle Simmons, attended a gathering of some of the world's leading physicists on Helgoland in Germany. This island in the North Sea is a spiritual home of quantum physics: the location of where Werner Heisenberg formulated some of the key principles of the field that SQC is now progressing.

With Physics World's Matin Durrani, Michelle shared her view that we are now living in a golden age for experimentalists:

• We have the machinery to manipulate materials at the atomic scale.
• We use them to fabricate our quantum chips at SQC.
• The ability to manufacture at the quantum level paves the way for SQC to deliver ever more useful quantum computers, more powerful quantum computing and devices that take advantage of quantum properties delivering quantum advantage today
