About the role

SQC’s device production pipeline turns quantum science designs into fabricated, tested devices – moving from scanning tunnelling microscope (STM), through cleanroom processing to cryogenic measurement at millikelvin temperatures. As Device Operations Manager, you will own that pipeline end to end.

You will sit at the intersection of quantum science, fabrication, and measurement – coordinating design readiness before device fabrication, tracking progress through the STM and cleanroom, and closing the loop with the fridge measurement teams. You will decide which devices are prioritised at each stage, balancing competing scientific and strategic demands, and you will own the throughput and yield that result.

This is a role for someone who can move fluidly between technical and operational detail, who is comfortable making prioritisation calls with imperfect information, and who can hold multiple technical teams to a shared standard of readiness.

Role responsibilities

  • Prioritise device throughput based on strategic needs, sequencing the pipeline to reflect research and business priorities.
  • Manage the device pipeline end-to-end, from design handoff through STM (atomic fabrication), cleanroom processing, and fridge-based measurement.
  • Own throughput and yield metrics across the fabrication pipeline, identifying bottlenecks, points of failure, and driving continuous improvement.
  • Establish and enforce readiness gates – ensuring device designs meet all technical and process checkpoints before advancing to STM fabrication.
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with quantum science, device physics, measurement, and fabrication teams to align design intent with fabrication capability.
  • Track and report pipeline status, yield trends, and throughput performance to leadership.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation, tracking systems, and prioritisation frameworks for the device pipeline.
  • Put in place the software, data systems, and analytics – including AI-enabled tools – needed to monitor the pipeline, surface insights, and drive continuous improvement in throughput and yield.
  • Identify and resolve process or handoff issues between design, fabrication, and measurement stages.

Your experience

  • Degree in physics, materials science, electrical engineering, or related field – advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience in semiconductor device engineering, or production control.
  • Familiarity with nanofabrication processes, and device measurement techniques.
  • Exposure to quantum devices (superconducting, spin, or photonic) highly regarded, though not essential.
  • Strong cross-functional coordination skills, with the ability to work across scientific and engineering teams.
  • Data-driven approach to yield and throughput management.
