About us
Silicon Quantum Computing (SQC) is at the forefront of global efforts to build the world's first commercial-scale quantum computer, while delivering quantum-enhanced AI and simulation products to customers today.
Backed by over 25 years of technological excellence, SQC is a full-stack quantum computing company that leverages its proprietary manufacturing process to engineer atomic qubits in silicon with 0.13 nanometer precision. It is the most precise semiconductor manufacturing in the world, enabling systems with world-leading algorithmic fidelity, and a decisive advantage in the global quantum computing race.
Our products are commercially deployed and generating revenue. Watermelon, our quantum-enhanced AI system, is delivering superior results on real-world problems across energy, telecom and finance. Quantum Twins, our simulation platform, provides unparalleled ability to model quantum systems, accelerating molecule and materials discovery.
This is SQC: building the future of computing while delivering quantum impact today.
About the role
SQC is scaling fast. We've moved from research to revenue, with commercially deployed products and a significant growth agenda ahead, and our finance function needs to scale with the company. We're looking for a hands-on Senior Financial Accountant to take broad ownership across the accounting cycle and help build finance into a function that can support a company operating at the frontier.
This is a genuinely broad, hands-on role with real scope. You'll own monthly reporting and reconciliations, run statutory compliance and payroll support, manage fixed assets and grant tracking, and have the room to improve how finance operates as the business grows, including through our upcoming move to a new ERP. It will suit someone who wants visibility across the whole company rather than a narrow lane, and who is energised by building and improving rather than maintaining.
Based at SQC's headquarters at UNSW Sydney, this is a full-time, six-month fixed-term contract, reporting directly to the Head of Finance. The role is funded for six months with a clear pathway to extension for the right person, and you'll join at a point where finance is being built out as the company scales.
Role responsibilities
Own monthly general ledger reconciliations and the quarterly management reporting pack
Prepare and lodge monthly IAS and quarterly BAS statements
Support monthly payroll, including payroll taxes and superannuation
Oversee accounts payable and support the Finance Associate
Manage fixed assets and leave provisions
Process sales and grant invoicing, and manage collections
Cost and track grants and projects, and support audit
Prepare the FBT return and support income tax return drafting
Contribute to budgeting
Identify and drive improvements to reporting and finance processes as the function scales
Your experience
5+ years across accounts payable, management reporting, and business activity (BAS/IAS) compliance
Proficiency with contemporary ERP and accounting platforms (we use Xero today, likely moving to NetSuite)
Excellent Excel skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
A track record of enhancing reporting and challenging the status quo, with a hands-on, solutions-focused approach
The recruitment process
For roles at SQC, expect 3-4 interviews, meeting a few members of the team and focusing on your core eligibility for the role, your skills and how they align, and finally your values and how they align. We'll give you a more specific runthrough if you're successful in making it to the first interview.
As part of our obligations to our clients, we require that successful candidates submit to background checks, including a National Police Check, Right to Work checks, as well as employment and qualifications verification. We won't contact anyone until we're confident there's a fit between SQC and yourself.
How to apply
The best and simplest way is to apply directly here, rather than messaging anyone on the SQC team directly. If you have any questions that you'd like answered before committing to applying, please feel free to email us at careers@sqc.com.au.
Please note
This position may require access to export-controlled information (ECI) subject to EAR and ITAR. Final employment decision is contingent upon satisfactory completion of export control screenings and obtaining any necessary export licenses or approvals, based on nationality, citizenship, and other factors considered by applicable export control regulations.
About SQC
SQC was founded by renowned physicist and materials scientist Michelle Simmons, who pioneered the field of atomic electronics, including the development of the world's first single-atom transistor and the first integrated circuit built with atomic precision. Our Chair, Simon Segars, former CEO of Arm, is a leader in the semiconductor industry and was instrumental in developing the processors that powered the mobile computing revolution.
As a full-stack company with in-house QPU manufacturing, SQC can design, produce and test new quantum chips in under a week, enabling rapid iteration and a decisive advantage in the race to build the world's first commercial-scale quantum computer.
SQC is a high-accountability environment built on a simple principle: Every Atom Counts. If you're looking to play a meaningful role in building the next frontier of computing, we'd love to hear from you.
